Groups show what they have at open house

Have you ever wanted to get information on your favorite sorority or fraternity, or wanted to find out what a campus student organization was all about? If so, you should have been in attendance at open house for campus organizations. The organization open house was held Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Student Center ballroom. The event was attended by 26 recognized campus student organizations.

Each organization in attendance had its own individual booth set up, designed with artifacts and information pertaining to that particular organization. Some groups also had contact sheets where interested students could sign up for further information about the organization.

“Gamma Sigma Sigma chose to participate in this open house so that we could inform students who we are and what we do. Events such as this one give students the opportunity to meet us and get exposed to our faces,” said junior Kathleen Vandyke.

The Greek fraternities in attendance included Alpha Phi Alpha, Phi Beta Sigma, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Phi Psi, and Iota Phi Theta.

“Phi Beta Sigma chose to partake in this open house to provide the students with positive, insightful information about our fraternity,” said junior Eugene Lawson.

The Greek sororities in attendance were Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, and Sigma Gamma Rho.

“Sigma Gamma Rho attended because we saw it as an excellent way to disseminate information about our organization,” said junior Letitia Worthington.

Other campus student organizations in attendance at the event included the Wesley Foundation, Gamma Phi Delta, The African Club, The Minority Association of Pre-health Students, Epsilon Gamma Iota, The NAACP, H.O.P.E, The Panther Advisory Leaders, National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, Club Flava, Sigma Gamma Iota, Rho Chi Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, Kappa Kappa Psi, Kappa Psi Omega, Sigma Tau Theta, Alpha Iota, and Gamma Sigma Sigma.

“I feel that the open house was an excellent way for students, especially freshmen, to become informed about the different organizations on campus. There was a lot of good information to get students involved with the different groups on campus,” said sophomore Troy Charleston.
