Save Your Money, Join The Investment Club

Guess what Prairie View students? Help is on the way!

Are you tired of never having any money to do anything with? Are you tired of receiving huge over payment checks from Financial Aid one week and you’re flat broke the next? Well, listen up because the College of Business is tired of seeing you in distress as well. They have put together an Investment Club where students will learn to do just that, invest.

The Investment Club is the newest club here on campus. The purpose for the Investment Club is to assist and educate inexperienced investors by teaching them how to invest their money wisely and familiarizing them with different types of investments. Members of the Investment Club will develop an understanding of saving and investing.

Kendall Thompson, Founder and President of the Investment Club has a plethora of reasons for starting this club. “In college, we learn professional and scholar skills but nothing about our finances. So when we graduate we put our money in a savings account earning 1 to 2 percent interest.

After leaving the university if we are interested in investing we have to rely on stock brokers and others who may not have our best interests at heart. They might not have our best interests at heart because they get paid on commission”, says Kendall.
Thompson went on to say, “The Investment Club will teach students to do the research themselves to avoid relying on the advice of others. Students will have the chance to develop their investment portfolio early to take advantage of the investment opportunities within our economy.”

All are welcome to come out. Even though it is the College of Business Investment Club the doors are open to all students, faculty, and alumni at the university. This program is very beneficial to all who come out. The benefits of the Investment Club include gaining an understanding of what investment is, and also learning to manage personal finances more effectively.

The Investment Club is headed by four investment savvy officers who have big plans for the Investment Club this year. Kendall Thompson, whom was mentioned before, is the founder and President. Ryan Rivers has all of the Vice Presidential duties. Trason is the secretary and Jonathan Giles wears the title of treasurer.

The Investment Club plans to hold seminars on investing, they also plan to bring in guest speakers on various investment subjects as well as take field trips related to investing.

Meetings for the investment Club will be held every Wednesday at Hobart Taylor in room 1c129. Come out and enjoy saving money.
