On Saturday, Nov 6, the Lady Panthers hosted Southern University in a make-up game that was supposed to take place on homecoming day.The Lady Panthers (5-3) SWAC (10-24) overall and the Southern University Lady Jaguars (1-6) SWAC and (5-17) overall battled it out at the William “Billy” Nicks Athletic Complex with Prairie View coming out with three games to none.
In the first match, the Lady Panthers defeated Southern University by 18 points with a final score of 30 to 12. The Lady Panthers took the court fully focused to take the win. They dominated heavily on both the defensive and offensive ends. The ladies worked vigorously and took advantage of every Southern mistake.
In the first, the Lady Panthers attack percentage was outstanding. The ladies had 14 kills, only one error and 33 total attacks with a final attack percentage of .394. On the other hand, the Lady Jaguars suffered tremendously on the defensive end with an attack percentage of -.067.
In game two of the series, the Lady Panthers worked twice as hard to shut Southern University down 30 to 17. Although the Lady Jaguars tried to come back from a 1 to game deficit, Prairie View’s Lady Panthers still held strong to take the lead two games to none.
Shannon Harrison and Tamika Neuman were just two of the players who made big plays in the Lady Panthers’ much needed win. The Panthers ended game two with 19 kills, six errors, and 43 total attacks and had a final attack percentage of .302, while the Lady Jaguars of Southern University made seven errors, had only four kills and 29 total attacks and a -.103 attack percentage.
In the last and final game of the day, the Lady Jaguars tried to erase the Lady Panthers’ two game lead with hard work and strong teamwork. Unfortunately, their efforts weren’t enough and they were defeated in a close game with a final score of 30 to 24. The Lady Panthers and the Lady Jaguars played a very close game. Both teams ended the series with three team blocks and both teams had six errors in game three. The Lady Panthers had 13 kills and 39 total attacks and ended the game with a .333 team attack percentage. The Lady Jaguars of Southern University had 10 kills, 27 total attacks and a .148 total attack percentage in game three.
This was the second time the team met this season and the Lady Panthers have won the series two games to none.
