Beating out 130 debaters at Lousiana State University in Shreveport, novice PV student Daneric Johnson finished in the top eight. Teammate Lance Dennis made it to the double octofinals, finishing in the top 32.
The 130 competitors included very good debators from Grambling State University, Xavier University of New Orleans, Lousiana State University (Monroe), Lousiana State University (Shreveport), and Henderson State University.
The top overall speaker in the tournament was from Lousiana State University Monroe.
Daneric Johnson was the top black debater in the tournament. Grambling kept up with us until the octofinals. Daneric advanced to the quarterfinals. A lady from LSU-Shreveport got top speaker award in Open Division.
At the University of Houston tournament (Nov. 5-7), Laura Cochran was the top novice impromptu speaker. Megan Goodwin was 2nd top novice speaker in debate. Tiffany Turner was 3rd in Open Division Debate.
At the University of Arkansas, Monticello (Oct. 9-10) tournament, Coach Ozzie Banicki, finished 2nd in the open division (coaches, general public and graduate students.)
The PV Department of Languages and Communications will host the Martin Luther King Debates Jan. 15-17, 2005.
The general public, (Texas Toastmasters etc.), colleges and universities are invited.
