Ladies Retreat Week was presented by Miss Prairie View A&M University 2004-2005 Christie Cummings and the Royal Court. The event was formulated with the objective of “cultivating young ladies mind, body, and soul: uniting ladies in fellowship and womanhood.” The week- long retreat began on Tuesday, Nov. 16, and ended on Saturday Nov.20.The initial event of the week, “In the Spirit-Inspirational Writings of Susan L. Taylor & Diva Discussion,” was held Tuesday Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Phase III clubhouse. Dr. E. Joahanne Thomas-Smith, provost, and Nella Mupier, Miss PVAMU 2002-2003 were in attendance at Diva Discussion.
“The Diva Discussion was an excellent experience. We all opened up to each other and discussed everyday issues,” said sophomore Talitha Grant.
The next event of the week “Cultivating Young Ladies: Mind, Body, and Soul Seminar” was held Thursday, Nov. 18 in the New Science building. The speaker for the event was Dr. Grace Goodie, a Prairie View professor, and doctor of natural medicine.
“The Cultivating Young Ladies seminar was well above inspiring Dr. Goodie was so motivating, and her speech made me question a lot of things in my life. I am speechless. It was very powerful and I received a lot out of it,” said sophomore Anita Darjean.
The final event of the week “Queens Brunch Ambassadors of Prairie View A&M University” was held on Saturday Nov. 20. The event featured speaker Dr. Sherrod, Miss Prairie View A&M University 1970-1971 and founder of the Black Foxes.
“Ladies Retreat week was designed to gain more insight of being a lady of distinction, character, and values. The event was designed for the females of the university to come together and bond, fellowship, and embark on a memorable experience,” said Miss Prairie View Christie Cummings.
