On his debut album “Get Lifted” John Legend delivers a refreshing breath of soul music intended for the masses. Best known for his hit single “Used to Love U”, Legend’s new album delivers tracks that will gain just as much popularity as the first single. “Get Lifted” beautifully fuses gospel, jazz, blues and R&B into one sound. Released December 28, 2004, “Get Lifted” is currently ranked number four on the Billboard Top 200 chart. In my opinion, Legend has produced an album that will continue to spin in CD and MP3 players, long after its release. “Get Lifted” is an album of soul, with the intent to capture the listener and gain full attention to bellow out its beautiful harmony. This album provides the listener with both up tempo and slow tracks. From songs laced with lyrics from Snoop Dogg (“I Can Change”), to a simple piano number (“Ordinary People”) sung by Legend alone. “Get Lifted” will never leave the listener disappointed, only wanting more of his melodic tunes.
Legend must be recognized for his thought inspiring lyrics, and his gifted harmony which is constant with on all his tracks. “Get Lifted” is not your ordinary run of the mill R&B album but a collection of fine lyrical expressions and well produced beats by none other than Kanye West and Legend himself. This album is one you will sing to, dance to, relate to, and vibe to, and just overall love. For music lovers looking for something new and fresh, John Legend’s “Get Lifted” can and will provide.
