Student requests that PVAMU get involved in tsunami relief

I was reading The Panther the other day and came across the article, “FAMU, Howard students aid in tsunami relief.” I am saddened by the tragedy that occurred more than a month ago, but what amazes me most is the fact that Prairie View has done completely nothing (or if we have it was not publicized) to help the tsunami victims. It should not come as a shock to us that other schools are finding ways to contribute. What is shocking is that we, as a school, are reading about their contributions while we have none of our own. It is nearly a month since the semester started yet no organization, not even the SGA, has organized a fundraising for the tsunami disaster.

When I go to the MSC for meals, the most common place for student hangout and most definitely the most generous place on campus, there is not even a tin to put change into to go towards this aid. This is not supposed to be one of those contributions where one is forced to give. We should not have a reason to give or an excuse not to. It is wonderful to hear about other schools’ contributions, but should it not be our own and ways in which we could contribute? I have another question- how many of us have contributed personally without the push and shove from organizations? I think we should examine ourselves as a school and as individuals and see if we truly exhibit what this school is about.
