BSM heads to Dallas

The Baptist Student Movement will be traveling to Dallas on Feb. 26 to perform at two local churches. Accompaning them will be Prairie View President Dr. George C. Wright. On Saturday, Cornerstone Baptist Church is hosting a concert featuring BSM. Following BSM’s performance, Dr. Wright will speak to the congregation. BSM will also be performing at Friendship West Baptist Church on Sunday at the morning service.

The Baptist Student Movement was established in 1935 by students to uplift others. With this purpose in mind, they have been bringing joy to Prairie View and surrounding areas for 70 years. Junior political science major Niky Wooding said, “The BSM concerts are really an exhilarating experience. It is wonderful to be in the spirit and filled with the spirit through the ministries of our fellow students.”

BSM not only brings joy to the hearts of others, but also showcases talents in competitions nationwide. BSM has participated in several different competitions over the years. The group has also won numerous awards and received special recognition for their talent. Last year, BSM won first place in the National Baptist Student Union retreat. This year they will be returning to the retreat to reclaim their title.

On Feb. 11, BSM hosted a 70th Anniversary gathering at St. Stevens Baptist Church in Houston.BSM president Quinton Phillips said, “We are striving for new heights this year and we plan on bringing joy to everyone around us.
