Student-teacher relationships

Throughout an individual’s college career a vital part to succeeding academicaly and professionally are the hours spent one on one with professors.

Every semester students rush in and out of classes to get a preview of what to expect for the next four and a half months. In the syllabus students find the most important information that no textbook, course reading or Internet web source can offer, the professor’s office hours.

Narisha Jordan a graduating senior at Prairie View said, ” I spoke with my teachers many times on the telephone when I could not sit down face to face with them when I needed help or counseling. Despite the fact that I did not have a conventional meeting with my teachers I still benefited from the help that I received from my professors outside of the classroom.”

Utilizing a professor’s office hours has also been useful for graduating students. Joel Swisher, a junior communications major, found himself looking forward to what he thought was going to be two more years of college and an understanding of his degree plan.

Swisher confided in a professor who explained to him the course track that he was on and advised Swisher that he did not have as long as he thought.

“I found out that with my continuation of passing grades I will be graduating in winter instead of spring as I originally thought. I would have never known better if it weren’t for the time that my professor took to explain my situation,” Swisher said.
