UCBA leads the pack in intramural activities

University College really has been stepping it up, this year. Last semester they branched off from intramural football, and created the UCFL. Now they have the UCBA (University College Basketball Association). Like the UCFL, the UCBA operates using each building in University College as a team, consisting of the residents in that specific building. The games are held in the New Gym.

Last Thursday there were three games held, one women’s game and two men’s games.

The first game was between Coach Jones’ building 44, and Coach Aaron’s building 37. Jones’ squad got off to a fast start and demolished “37” in the first half. “44” had six players score in the first half and only allowed Aaron’s team to score eight points. The game ended with “44” defeating “38” by 11-points, 34-23.

The Free Agents, led by Coach Tate, got on the court next and were shut down early by Coach Bacchus’ building 45. Defense kept Bacchus’ team ahead as they entered the half with an 18-7 lead. In the second half only three players were able to score for “45”, causing their deficit to increase as the clock winded down. “45” won 31-18.

Narada New led all scorers with seven points, and a couple of other players were close behind with six points.

The last game held, included one of UCBA’s highest scoring teams, building 38. “38”, the UCFL champs, are a favorite to win the UCBA tournament. Their LCM, Perry Holmes, coaches them. Their opponent was building 37, coached by Leona Aaron, who was already heated because of her earlier loss.

Building 38 jumped out to a lead almost unattainable by “37” given the way they were playing. Holmes’ team went into the half leading by fourteen points, 21-7. Jemiah Richards led all scorers in the first half with 8 points, which included two three pointers.

After the half Aaron’s team started to look like they found some hidden energy, as “38” started to lose momentum. Whitney Livingston was the go-to guy for “37” in the second half, leading his team in scoring with thirteen points. Down in the stretch “38” continued on its scoring tantrum, and was the victor. Richards led all scorers with 14 points.

When asked about his team’s chances of winning the championship Coach Holmes said, “I think the biggest competition we have are buildings 36 and 45, but we have a real good chance of winning.
