J.Stone, Keke to headline SIFE talent showcase

Talent is in great supply at Prairie View A&M University and the SIFE Team plans on showcasing them to the world with its Changing the World Talent Showcase III and Competition on Saturday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in the MSC Auditorium. Last year’s winners Willie J. Stone and Shakela “KeKe” Fields will headline the performance, in addition to the 15 contestants competing for the 2005 title and prizes. The team chose to showcase J. Stone and KeKe, rather than have them compete in the show because of their professional status in the music industry, and the fans they have amassed at the university. Both artists are rising stars in their own right and are currently preparing for solo careers in the immediate future.

KeKe is a junior accounting major from Dallas and aspires to be a successful artist and ghostwriter for other artists. Keke served as the PVAMU Mascot during the 2002-03 school year. Additionally, she won Best Talent in SIFE Showcase II, first place in the University’s Wreck the Mic Contest, and second place in the Springfest Talent competition.

J. Stone is a sophomore communications major from Killeen and plans on a career in the entertainment industry. He reigned as Mr. UC 2003-2004, and is a six-time Campus Showtime at the Apollo Winner. He is also the founder of the Self-Empowerment Association, a member of the Campus Activities Board and the Baptist Student Movement.

In order to expose the talent to the entertainment industry, the SIFE Team will also sponsor a music business seminar at 1 p.m. in the MSC Auditorium. Representatives from the industry will be on hand for the seminar.

Judges for the talent competition include entertainment executives from record labels, talent agencies and other professionals from the industry.

Advance tickets are $3 and $5 at the door. Tickets are available from SIFE members in oom 218 Evans Hall. Or call SIFE office at 2120.
