Volleyball player named SWAC newcomer of the year

Outside hitter Crystal Stigler has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s newcomer of the year and to the All-SWAC second team for her outstanding play during the 2005 season. Stigler, a 5-9 junior from Houston, ranks in the top five in three statistical categories in the SWAC. She ranks first in kills with 269, fourth in services aces with 45 and fifth in kills with a 3.13 average.

“Crystal worked extremely hard all year long,” said PVAMU head coach Alicia Pete. “She has improved tremendously throughout the year. I’m very excited about what the future holds for our team with her emerging as one of our team leaders.”

Twice during the regular season, Stigler was named SWAC Player of the week. She was also selected to the University of North Texas Mean Green volleyball all-tournament team. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Prairie View has had a player to reap SWAC newcomer of the year honors.
