The 48th Annual Ministers’ Conference, sponsored by the Johnson-Phillips All Faith Chapel, opened Tuesday in the MSC Auditorium to raise scholarship money for the students of Prairie View A&M University. The theme for this year’s conference is, “The Priest, Prophet, and Preacher: Proclaiming the Prophetic Word in these Perilous Times.”
The ministers who gathered at this year’s conference had several objectives, including to develop an ecumenical leadership community, to cultivate and prepare individuals in the field of ministry, to engage participation in the sociological life of the community, and to enhance Christian leadership within our churches.
Several Outstanding Leadership Awards were presented to the ministers in attendance.
Charles H. Lewter IV, dean of the Chapel said, “This is the 48th year for this conference and today we had over 250 people in attendance. The main goal is to continue to build a fellowship with different denominations and in doing so, coming together to raise money for scholarships. I enjoy the minister’s conference every year because it is my way of giving students the opportunity to fulfill their educational dreams.”
“The purpose of this conference is to enrich today’s leaders for the present and future times, and to also strengthen the communities and families and impact the world through the work of the church,” said senior marketing major Russell Hutchison.
Many of the ministers who gather at this conference feel that it is a very enlightening experience.
“I come to this conference every year to help these young people raise finances to support the scholarship fund, but in the process of coming to share resources, I am enriched, enlightened, and blessed all at the same time,” said Reverend Lee Jones of the St. Paul Baptist Church in Brookshire.
