Prairie View sweeps Paul Quinn in two day matchup

Prairie View pitcher Matt Chase, shut down a late rally in Game 1 and Panther Calvin Lester had three hits and three RBI’s in Game 2 as Prairie View swept a double header from Paul Quinn, 5-4 and 14-one.”We came out lackadaisical, but we showed enough focus to win” said Coach Michael Robertson. With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth of Game 1, short stop Michael Richard singled in Roshard Shorter to make it 4-3 Panthers (6-0).

Later in the fifth, Brandon Whitby sent a fly ball into left field that brought in Willford White and made the score 5-3. However, Paul Quinn responded by loading the bases in the top of the seventh.

After a James Taylor walk brought the Tigers (0-3) within one run of the Panthers, Matt Chase got David Early to ground out and end Game 1, earning Chase the save.

Fernando Almaguer picked up the win, giving up three runs (one earned), two walks, and six hits with two strikeouts in five innings of work.

In Game 2, Prairie View struck early and often, including a four run outburst in the seventh and a six run outburst in the eighth. Ten different Panthers had base hits and Adrian Canales (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, giving up 0 runs, three hits and four walks with three strikeouts in five innings pitched.
