ST. JOHNS, Mich. (AP) A Lansing man was sentenced to between 15 and 25 years in prison Monday for second-degree murder in the traffic deaths of two college students.Gerardo Garcia, 23, was driving the wrong way in the northbound lanes of U.S. 127 about 3 a.m. on Oct. 2 when he struck a vehicle carrying four Central Michigan University students, authorities said. He had a blood-alcohol level of 0.17, more than twice the legal limit, Clinton County Prosecutor Charles Sherman said.
The driver, Jennifer Stano, 19, of Macomb County’s Clinton Township, and passenger Courtney Hernandez, 18, of Flat Rock, died in the crash. The other passengers received minor injuries.
