For their performances on the mound, the Prairie View A&M University pitching duo of Adrian Canales and Matthew Chase earned Southwestern Athletic Conference pitcher of the week honors. Canales was selected during the period of Feb. 1 to Feb. 26 while Chase earned the honor from Feb. 27 to March 12.Canales, a 5-11, 170-pound right handed pitcher who is in his first season after transferring from Wharton County Junior College, began the season 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA. In three appearances, Canales pitched 11 innings, allowing just nine hits and striking out six batters to help lead Prairie View to a 6-3 mark to begin the season.
Chase was selected after posting a perfect 3-0 record in addition to accumulating a 2.14 ERA with 19 strike outs in 21 innings pitched with one complete game. The 6-5, 200-pound right hand junior helped lead the Panthers to a perfect 9-0 (7-0 SWAC) mark during the period.
