Last Wednesday, Prairie View A&M University students gathered outside the Memorial Student Center to learn about many exciting internship and career opportunities the Federal Bureau of Investigation has to offer.
The students of the marketing communications class in the College of Business organized the event as part of their project under FBI’s Collegiate Marketing and Recruitment Program. PVAMU is one of seven universities selected for participation.
“FBI on the Hill” was aimed at distributing information on FBI’s career opportunities, especially for women and minorities. To highlight career opportunities, students wore T-shirts and passed out flyers with the message “FBI: More than meets the eye. Visit fbijobs.gov, Enter code: EdVenture Partners Program.”
At a brief inauguration ceremony, Dr. E. Joahanne Thomas-Smith, provost and senior vice president for academic and student affairs said, “The College of Business at Prairie View A&M University is to be commended for combining theory and practice in such a creative manner. To see our students learn the how to of marketing in their classes and then demonstrate their ability to use that knowledge to develop a marketing campaign is rewarding.” Dr. Lauretta Byars, vice president of institutional relations and public service, stressed the university’s commitment to service learning.
Dr. Munir Quddus, dean of the College of Business, said, “I am strongly supportive of this program. The mission statement of the College of Business commits the college to prepare our students so that they are readily employable at graduation. This is a fine example of our efforts in this direction.”
The ceremony was followed by information sessions conducted by several special agents from the FBI’s Houston office including Donald Greaves, Raymond Oglesby, Lucretia Robinson, and Russell Robinson.
The event was highly informative for the students. The overall success of this campaign was remarkable and was attended by a large number of students. The partnership was a gratifying one for the students of the College of Business, as well as Prairie View A&M University in the quest for continuous improvement.
