The Panther football team
has returned with eight offensive
starters from a squad that ranked
third in the conference in rushing
offense and led the SWAC in time of
possession.Among those starters are
the combo of Arnell Fontenot (5-10,
195) and Kerry Wilson (6-1, 190) in
the backfield., as well as three of the
five starting linemen on a line that
ranked second in the conference in
sacks allowed. “We feel like we have
a solid back field with Fontenot and
Wilson carrying the load,” said head
coach Henry Frazier.
Also, receivers Marvin
Howard and Joe Townsend (5-10,
160) have returned to add experience
within the Panthers passing game.
Howard, a 6-1 senior from Miami led
the team in receiving last year.
The most anticipated player
to watch this season is new starting
quarterback Chris Gibson, a junior
out of Houston, Texas. This season
will be his first as a full time starter.
“Townsend and Howard
will be intricate parts of what we
want to do in our passing game,” said
Frazier. The last of the eight is tight
end Rafael Revulta (6-3, 240). A huge
target, Revulta was third on the team
in yards per catch last season. He
also was a huge part of the Panthers
running attack with his blocking
ability.”
With talent like these on the
offensive side of the ball, the Panthers
should give defenses a lot of trouble
throughout the season. Frazier feels
that it generally takes some time for
offenses to gel together but feels when
that happens his team should feature
a very special unit.
