UJ Fashions is up and coming Apparel Company founded by Prairie View’s own Uniquka Johnson. Uniquka is a business marketing major approaching her senior year and is currently operating her own business while in school as a fashion designer.
Uniquka designs and makes her own clothes and has been doing so since she was 8 years old. From then, Uniquka was smitten by the fact that she could combine her love for drawing and sewing to create an actual, wearable work of art.
Throughout high school, Uniquka designed, made and marketed her apparel to fellow students as well as teachers. During this process, Uniquka also began producing her own fashion shows to specifically showcase her creations on a runway stage. Some say she has continued this fashion pursuit throughout her college years by making a name for herself as one of the best fashion designer to turn to for this campus’s fashion and apparel needs.
With one sewing machine, Uniquka has produced amazing creations for organizations such as Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Phi Beta Sigma, Omega Psi Phi and not to mention many, many student clients and customers through out Houston and Dallas, Texas. Uniquka’s apparel has been recognized by State Fair of Texas, The Dallas Morning News, The Black Dallas Expo, WB, ABC, and MTV.
Her work consists of custom creations and alterations of formal, dressy, and casual wear for both women and men. It is Uniquka’s intent to learn and understand all aspects of business so that she can know all the ins and outs of purchasing, owning and expanding her clothing operation into an even more successful operation. This year, Uniquka along with Debonair (the name of her fabulous models) of UJ Fashions are aspiring to be ahead of the game. Be on the look out for this new female entrepreneur because Uniquka is a prime example of how Prairie View continues to produces productive people.
