The Phase III clubhouse held a seminar titled Living In a Frustrated Environment last Wednesday.
The seminar created by senior Don Sweat and coordinated by Sweat, Richard Dodd and Jeremiah Richards Jr. (among others), featured two speakers who represented two points of view about how students should approach college life. One speaker, senior Richard Hutchinson Jr., presented the students with a biblical perspective and guidance for college life, and Hutchinson included Bible verses and other words of wisdom that correlate to the Bible. Senior Wesley Benson presented the secular point of view, as he used many everyday examples of life situations to counter some of the points made by Hutchinson. “Tonight was important because it was a vision of how people could be in touch with their spiritual side, as well as their worldly side,” said Richard Dodd.
The night seemed to be an important event for Prairie View students. “It seems like a good place to vent, and get some answers,” senior Chondra Burnett said.
Many topics were discussed throughout the night, including (though not limited to) the seriousness of relationships, drinking in moderation vs. getting drunk, the issue of couples having sex before or after marriage, the issue of cheating and how one should react, the determination of what constitutes cussing, plus many more topics. All the topics had the audience members give their opinion on the subject and ask questions to the speakers, who answered the questions the best they could. The night saw plenty of emotion, as the topics discussed brought out plenty of fun for all who attended and it also brought out passion from the speakers themselves, as it was clear they were passionate about their point sof view.
“Tonight was important because it was a vision of how people could be in touch with their spiritual side, as well as their worldly side,” said Richard Dodd.
