Lady Panthers come back with road win

The Prairie View Lady Panthers basketball team rank fourth in the conference after bringing home an 80-64 win against the Grambling State Lady Tigers Feb. 10.During the first half, the Panthers struggled to make half of their attempted shots making 12-37 attempts. Nevertheless, Prairie View went into halftime with a 36-33 lead.

The Lady Panthers continued their scoring strike in the second half, shooting an excellent 44 percent from beyond the arch and surpassing their first half scoring mark by eight points. They outscored the Lady Tigers 44-31 in the second half.
California native Shavonne Smith led Prairie View to its 10th overall win producing 21 points, eight assist and five steals. Taneshia Barefield helped with 18 points, and freshman Gaati Werema added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Grabbing nine additional rebounds was sophomore Twila Stokes.
The men’s game began fast with both teams trading baskets early in the first half. Brian Ezeh was first to score a basket for the Panther team on a magnificent lay up.
During the first six minutes of the game Panther players fought hard to handle the fast-paced Grambling offense, keeping within two baskets. As the game progressed the Panther basketball team fought hard to control the Tiger offense that was on a scoring spree.

The first half for the Panther basketball team was hard fought but into halftime Grambling State was ahead 42-34. The action picked up in the second half with Grambling State scoring the first basket as the game pressed on. Grambling began to pull away with a barrage of baskets. The panther continued to fight valiantly but would end up coming short in this battle for basketball supremacy 87-73. Brian Ezeh led the Panther squad with 21 points and 3 rebounds.
