The mighty Panthers of Prairie View A&M University took on the Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin State University in a grueling baseball game last Wednesday.The game began slowly with the Panthers just getting one base hit from Arthur Christal. The Lumberjacks were first to get on the scoreboard in the second inning on the push from an outfield single they drove in the first run of the game.
In the bottom of the second inning the Panther offense got started by a single from Brandon Kendricks after a couple of errors from the Lumberjack defense the Panthers were able to score their first runs of the game.
The offense continued to score with two more runs batted in by Arthur Christal Prairie View left the second inning with five runs. In the third inning the pitching staff began to stifle the Lumberjack offense, holding them without any runs through the second and third innings.
In the top of the fifth inning the Lumberjack offense got two runs on the tough Panther defense, in the bottom of the fifth the Prairie View offense had another explosion of offensive supremacy.
Brandon Kendricks started off the offensive attack with a single to centerfield which opened the flood gates on the vulnerable Lumberjack defense. Greg Ford blasted an amazing home run over the left field wall. George Mcdonald and Spenser Dennis contributed to a nine run inning for the Panthers.
The Prairie View defense fought hard to hold back the Lumberjack offense but unfortunately allowed two runs in the top of the sixth inning.
The strong Panther offense was quiet throughout the next couple of innings. The Lumberjacks were able to score two more runs but were unable to get over the massive deficit.
On account of the Panthers’ strong offense the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks fell 17-7.
With this win the Panthers improve their record to 9-5 on the season.
