Despite inclement weather, the Zydeco Festival, sponsored by Campus Activity Board on April 14 still proved a success with the student body. The menu for the festival was crawfish, turkey legs, and sausage on a stick. All of these selections were available to any student who had a student ID. Any plate remaining was available for a small fee.
CAB director Tomaneka Smith said, “With the Zydeco Festival, it continues to bring diversity to the campus.” This year’s Zydeco Festival was the second time this event was held. “We had a great turnout,” said Smith, in fact the event brought in packs of students from all over the campus.
The entertainment for the afternoon was Houston’s own, J Paul & The Zydeco New Breeds, who have been together for eleven years. The band brought a different, but refreshing sound to the Zydeco Festival, and to the campus of Prairie View.
The event was something different for students to enjoy, and gave students on campus during the weekend something to do.
“The Zydeco Festival was a wonderful way to spend Saturday afternoon,” said freshman Tiffany Freeman. “The food and dancing was a great first time experience.
