The 2007 volleyball season is under way and defending SWAC champions, the Lady Panthers played in the Texas Southern season opener invitational Aug. 31 to Sept. 1 in Houston.
The Lady Panthers took on fellow SWAC title contenders Mississippi Valley State Lady Devils and the University of Texas at El Paso Lady Miners.
During their match against the Devils the Panthers were successful and won the match in four games with scores of 20-30, 30-25, 30-22 and 30-14.
In their second match the Lady Panthers lost to the Lady Miners in three games with scores of 16-30, 15-30, 16-30.
On the second day of the invitational, the Lady Panthers faced the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University, and the University of Louisiana Monroe Lady Warhawks; the team was victorious in both match-ups. The Panthers defeated the Lady Tigers in four games with scores of 30-24, 30-13, 30-25 and 30-28. Prairie View defeated the Lady Warhawks in three games with scores of 30-22, 30-28 and 30-28.
The Lady Panthers participated in the Southern Methodist volleyball tournament in Moody Coliseum in Dallas Sept. 7-8.
They took on the University of Mississippi Lady Rebels, Sam Houston State Bearkats, and the Southern Methodist University Lady Mustangs. The Panthers unfortunately were not victorious in their match-ups, losing to the Lady Rebels in three games 24-30, 30-23, 30-19, the Lady Bearkats 30-15, 32-30, 30-20 and the Lady Mustangs 30-24, 30-23, 30-19.
