This past weekend, Sept. 22, the SWAC Cross Country team ran at the 2007 Texas A&M Invitational. The event was held in College Station, Tx at the Penberthy Intramural Fields.
The teams that attended the Invitational were Texas A&M, Lamar, Texas-Arlington, University of Houston, Texas Christian, Texas-Pan American, Sam Houston state, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas A&M Alumni, and Texas A&M International. The teams ran a course of eight kilometers with the Prairie View men coming in ninth place with the average time of 27:50.60. The Prairie View women had a five kilometer course and finished tenth with a final time of 1:54:11.
The Cross Country’s Assistant Coach Chris Clay stated, “The newcomers are adjusting well. Considering the high school course is three miles.” Even with the pressures of running a longer pace, the coach went on to say, “Everyone’s time has dropped two minutes compared to the first meet. Each week we are getting better.”
The next meet for the cross country team will be Friday, the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islander Splash.
