Director explains parking procedures

Many students are unaware of the parking procedures on campus. Because of this, numerous students return to their cars in the Memorial Student Center parking lot as well as other lots to find a ticket waving on their windshield.

Fines range from $25-$125, depending on where the student parked and how many offenses they have had.

Tressey Wilson, director of parking management said, “On campus students need to be parked in their assigned parking lot in Phase I, II, III or University College, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.”

Also, any campus visitors must make sure that they have a visitor’s permit, which can be obtained at the information center located near the main entrance of the campus across from the flagpoles.

There are several parking lots on campus designated for faculty only. The parking lot on the business side of the Hobart Taylor building is reserved for faculty and staff. Commuter students are allowed to park on the band side. The MSC parking lot is reserved for faculty, staff, and commuter students.

The parking lot behind the Harrington Science Building is reserved for faculty and staff. There are no restrictions on the residential lots. However, all students and visitors must have a decal, or they will be fined.

Decals are $40 and may be purchased in Harrington Science, room 117. There is an appeals process for students who feel they have been unfairly fined.

The student must fill out the parking appeal written form in the parking management office within 14 days of receiving a ticket.

The appeals committee reviews the form and any other necessary material before making their decision.

Since tickets are placed on a student’s fees, it is important that they are paid on time to ensure that a hold is not placed on the student’s account. For any questions, contact the parking management office at 936-261-1701.
