Police issue warning

In the wake of two robberies that have been reported on campus, the Prairie View A & M University Department of Public Safety issued a “Timely Warning Clery Act-Campus Warning” last Friday.

“We put out the warning to make the public aware of these incidents and prevent any further victimization. We’re trying to create a possible profile of the two incidents so we can tie them together and see if maybe the incidents were perpetrated by the same individual,” Chief Algray Pettus of the Prairie View A & M University Department of Public Safety said.

According to the warning the suspect is described as “a black male who is sitting/waiting in a gray Honda (either Civic or Accord), 4-door vehicle. The male who approaches the victims was described as a very “light-skinned black or a Hispanic male.”

The warning stated that, “the suspect demanded the victim’s cell phone and wallet.”

The suspect is considered dangerous.

“We know that robberies have occurred but we haven’t determined that the suspect is armed. At least one of the incidents occurred in the parking lot of the architecture building,” Pettus said.

Police officials have not indicated if the suspect is targeting a certain group of individuals.

“Some things we can’t release because we don’t want to give the suspect too much information. We’re just warning people to be aware of people who are sitting in their cars in the parking lot especially a vehicle fitting the description in the warning. This is something you need to be aware of,” Pettus said.

Authorities are asking individuals who see any vehicle with an individual sitting inside not to take matters into their own hands, but to contact the Department of Public Safety.
