Love was in the air at the Memorial Student Center Feb. 14 where a variety of setups displayed different goods for students looking for the right gifts to give their significant others.
The Frederick Douglass Leadership Institute set up a table in front of the building, displaying ties, singing cards, picture frames, and crafty light up clocks.
“We are trying to be unique, everyone else has candy,” said Jessica Berry, a member of the institute. “We are fundraising for a convention.”
Also displaying goodies for the loving season were members of Tau Beta Sigma Sorority, Inc. In an attempt to raise money for Prairie View A&M University’s band, The Marching Storm, the ladies of Tau Beta Sigma were selling Love Baskets ranging from $5 to $15. The baskets consisted of candy, CDs, champagne glasses, pillows, lotion and rose petals.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. had a display of singing balloons, candles, and rose petals. They also gave away free Hershey Kisses and massages.
Shay Day, a member of the organization said, “We are out here just because it is Valentine’s Day.”
CHISPAS, a Hispanic organization here on campus, was selling candy bags and Valentine’s Day cards. They were also selling raffle tickets to win lockets. The raffle drawing was held at 4 p.m. later that day.
Many were celebrating this day of love to help with funding, others were giving back, but ultimately this day was about sharing love.
