Some people say he’s the best of both worlds and some say he’s the black vote. Barack Hussein Obama was born August 4, 1961 to Barack Obama Sr. and Ann Dunham. His parents separated when he was two years old, then later divorced. Obama Sr., a graduate of Harvard University, then returned to Kenya.
Obama lived in Indonesia with his mother and stepfather for part of his childhood, returning to Hawaii to finish high school. He graduated from Columbia University, where he majored in political science and specialized in international relations. Obama then attended Harvard Law School, served as the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review, and graduated magna cum laude.
Obama keeps a positive attitude even toward the non-believers. He was excited about his win in the Wisconsin primary. Shortly before his appearance at the rally in the Toyota Center in Houston, Obama said, “Texas is keen for the Democratic nomination.” He also stresses the importance of voting in general.
Obama believes Texas has not played a pivotal role in the elections since 1976. “The change we seek is still months away and we need the good people of Texas to get there,” Obama said. “If we’re blessed and honored to win the nomination, then we’re going to need you to help win the election in November.”
There were approximately 19,000 people in attendance at the rally. Obama thanked his supporters in Wisconsin, for going out in under 5 degree weather to vote for him in his victory over Hillary Clinton.
Obama spoke on his new plan for America coinciding with his motto, “Change we can believe in.” Obama plans to withdraw U.S. troops in phases, beginning immediately, and re-deploy some of those troops to Afghanistan.
As for health care, Obama plans to create a national health program, available to individuals and small businesses, to cover the uninsured.
On energy, he plans to reduce the amount of carbon in transportation fuels 10 percent by 2020 and raise the domestic fuel economy standards for cars.
Obama is more than a candidate for the representation of the Democrats; he is a movement. I’m sure there is a single mother somewhere in the world telling her son that he can be anything he wants to be. What better demonstration than seeing a man of color as president of the United States of America? So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show because we are watching history in the making.
