Motoring students at Prairie View are feeling the crunch as gas prices are on the rise once again. As of April 22, gas prices have soared nationwide to a record $3.50 a gallon according to the Dallas Morning News.
Many students have said that the new rise in energy prices has made them think twice about their summer plans.
Commuting students were among the first to begin feeling the crunch in their budgets. Some have considered moving back on campus in order to save on gasoline expenses.
“I am a commuter, but I don’t want to think about moving back on campus because on-campus tuition is going up, and you have to buy a meal plan. There is no win-win in this situation,” said Donlamasstino Hune, a sophomore secondary education major.
Some students are even more concerned about the state of the global economy as it relates to steadily increasing gas prices. Some feel that the economy is about to enter or has entered a recession.
“My predication is that high gas prices are going to result in the downward spiral in our society. Everything is going up in cost, the dollar’s value is declining and people are going to start becoming more desperate” said Terrence Grundy, a senior marketing major.
Others have considered purchasing cars which can be run on less gasoline, but most students have just begun scaling down on how much they drive around campus.
Gas prices do not look like they are going to decline soon, and Prairie View students are among the Americans who will have to weather the economic storm.
