Hump day features up and coming artists

Campus Activities Board sponsored the first hump day on the hill Sept.3, 2008. It was an interesting event where students could dance and check out the latest struts from the fraternities and sororities.

This year’s first hump day had performances by Dorrough Music and Chase Pat. Also keeping the crowd entertained were MC Nina F.Sarafina and DEFINITION DJ TITUS. Chase Pat performed “Need That Money” and “Doors Let Up” from his upcoming album “Da Bank Teller”.

“I am very grateful for all the love and support that Prairie View shows me every time I perform at the school”, said Chase Pat.

Chase Pat grew up and honed his lyricist skills in Pleasant Grove, a notoriously violent area of Dallas, Texas. He was heavily influenced by artists who displayed their lifestyle in their music such as late greats Pimp C, Tupac, Eazy E and Biggie Smalls. In 2005, Chase Pat hit the scene with his classic song dedicated to this neighborhood “Represent The Grove” which received radio play in Houston, Dallas, as well as in Arkansas, Louisiana and many other radio markets throughout the south. The club reaction towards Chase Pat is so intense that there have been times that his show was cut short because there were riots at two black colleges. Pat’s style of rap is very versatile, he can take you to the club with an up-tempo song or educate you with a mellow flow.

Chase does not rely on gimmick songs to have success in the music industry. Instead he stays true to himself as well as his audience by offering his fans tales of common struggles among black youth in today’s society.

Independent is a trait that describes Chase Pat. He owns his record label Grifter/Guttagame which promotes its brand through several thousand mixtapes circulating in the city and a fleet of promotional vehicles which include several work vans, two Hummers, and three Mercedes Benz all promoting the brand of Grifter/Guttagame. “Chase Pat is one of the most hard working artists in Texas,” says Alecea Rush of Amere Hart Productions.

In the next five years Chase Pat sees himself making a dramatic impact on the music scene and helping to influence younger artists in the music industry. Currently he is putting the finishing touches on his mixtape with DJ Titus and gearing up for a fourth quarter album release. Chase Pat’s endless grind and determination will soon put him in a situation were he will win top musical awards, experience high album sales, and put him in a place where he can give back to the students of Prairie View as well as his community. Chase Pat is on the rise and without a doubt will make his mark in the industry.
