“Talk” On the Hill

Ever wonder about some other ways to find out what’s “poppin’ on the Hill”? Well, we now have our very own broadcast news show called “On the Hill,” brought to you by Dedric Ray, also known as D-ray, Alicia Rush, Kristin Stephenson, Arlita Pouncy, and Brianna Mouttet, who are all senior mass communications majors, and members of Sigma Tau Theta Fraternity, Inc.

“We inform the student body about everything that’s going on, “on the yard,” from all sports events, pageants, Student Government Association, and other events occurring in the community that we feel the student body should know about,” stated Ray.

The idea of the show was originally Rush’s. Being members of a common organization, they all decided that campus news broadcast to all students would be a great idea. “I believe there was once a news broadcast show called “Good Morning Prairie View,” but no one is really sure what happened to it,” said Rush.

Currently they have broadcast their fourth show, every show features segments such as SGA President Johnie L. Jones III’s “Word on The Hill,” Sporting is a Habit, Get Like Me,” is done by D-Ray. Mayor Frank Jackson, informs students about Prairie View’s history, with “Betcha Didn’t Know.” There are also commercials with the mascots, and drops from students on the show.

Every Monday or Wednesday at 9 a.m. you can find the show posted on either of the newscaster’s profiles, which is uploaded on Youtube, then posted on each of their profiles on Facebook. In order to view the show, you must be added as a friend to at least one of the newscasters. Soon they will have a group on Facebook for all the student body to join, and view the show there as well. They are allowing other students to become involved, and are open to ideas from their audience. By the end of the school year, the graduating seniors hope to have the show syndicated on campus television.
