The Lady Panthers volleyball team traveled to San Antonio to take on the Lady Roadrunners from University of Texas at San Antonio. The Lady Roadrunners had won seven matches in a row before Tuesday’s match and defeated the Lady Panthers in three games in a hostile Convocation Center.
In the first game, the Lady Roadrunners came out strong offensively and the Lady Panthers struggled to stifle the offensive barrage. The Lady Panthers pushed hard to get back into the game, but UTSA ran away for the 25-15 victory. In the second game, the Lady Panthers fell behind 4-0; however, the teamwork started to show as they stormed back and eventually took the lead at 22-20. The Lady Panthers lead was very short lived as UTSA fought to tie the game at 24-24 before taking the second game 26-24.
In the third set, Prairie View was bombarded and UTSA took a 12-3 lead and never looked back. Perhaps due to the close, emotional nature of the previous set, the Lady Panthers seemed drained the entire third set and fell 11-25. For the match, Cheri Lindsay led the Lady Panthers with six kills and Shaun Williams contributed five of her own. Erin Fondel led the team with eighteen assists and Nicole Thompson led the defensive effort with twelve digs. The loss drops the Lady Panthers to 3-10 for the season and 2-0 in SWAC play, as they get ready to enter their next five matches on the road. The next two of the road games will be against conference opponents, Texas Southern and Alcorn State.
