The Lady Panther volleyball team took on the Lady Rams of Huston-Tillotson University again on Oct. 23. The Lady Panthers thrashed the Rams during their last meeting and this one would be no different.
The Panthers defeated the Rams in three close games, 25-21, 25-22, and 25-16. The Panthers have won eight straight matches and have yet to lose a match in Oct. Those eight wins include winning the Southern Invitational in Baton Rouge, La. and beating a couple worthy conference opponents such as Alcorn State and Texas Southern.
Samantha Mendez led the Lady Rams with 11 kills, followed by Courtney Morris and Ashley Wright with five kills each.
Despite the shaky start to their season, the Lady Panthers are poised to win another SWAC title. They are undefeated in conference play and defeated worthy opponents in the Southern Invitational.
The Panthers’ next game is scheduled against SWAC rival Grambling State University and set to be televised on ESPNU. The game will be an important determinant in who wins the SWAC’s western division.
