MLK legacy continues in annual Alpha march

Prairie View students celebrated the history of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Jan. 19 at this year’s 17th annual Martin Luther King Holiday march hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

The event started at 10 a.m. in the MSC and from there the students walked across campus to the University Village clubhouse. Speakers and presenters included Lieutenant Gibson, Mekyo Anderson and Simeon Queen.

“I really enjoyed the event,” sophomore Janiesha Taylor said. “This was my first march and I think it’s great that we’re taking so much pride in where we came from.”

The march helped students to celebrate Dr. King’s lifetime and all the doors he opened for African-American people.

“The reason we put this march on every year is because MLK was a very prestigious African-American of our lifetime, and we want to continue the legacy,” senior Jemiah Richards said. “It’s a time to celebrate and honor.”
