Slab of the Week

Kendrick Brewer, 19- year-old sophomore from Dallas, Texas kicks off the spring semester right as owner of the first slab of the week with his gold and black 1995 Chevrolet Caprice.

General Motors Co. introduced the Caprice to the world in 1965 and until the discontinuation of production in 1996, the caprice has been a rival to the ever popular Chevrolet Impala.

Brewer found his classic Chevy on the Internet from a young soldier who was going to serve our country overseas a little over a year ago and since January of 2008, Brewer has been on a mission to make his Caprice one-of-a-kind throughout the streets of Dallas, as well as on the campus of Prairie View A&M University.

The classy gold paint job, five percent limousine tint, and black out lights in the front and back serve as a unique two tone color scheme for the car of gold and black, while his dual flow master exhaust pipes, 22-inch rims and custom Chevrolet billet grill set the car off with a nice touch of chrome.

As a youth growing up in Texas, Brewer explains just how important it was to have a slab, and to get that little extra attention when he pulls out the driveway. And although he’s older now, Brewer states that a clean car, even in high school, is almost a necessity.

“You have to start out shinnin’ at a young age, man! Living in Texas, if you don’t pull out clean somebody else will, and you don’t want to have to play catch up!”

Individuality is one of the most important factors among today’s students. Whether it’s in the outfit they wear for the day or in this case, the car they pull up to a party in.

For those who take pride in their ride, as Brewer does, the car comes before all.

“I’d say the slab comes before the outfit, or some new Jordans,” says Brewer, “anybody can dress fresh, but it’s going to be your slab that they see driving around the parking lot. The slab is going to be the last impression when it’s all said and done.”

When asked if the car was completely finished, Brewer said, “I may upgrade to 24s, my partner has a Caprice on 4s and he’s making me want to upgrade to bigger rims; but other than that, I think it’s pretty much done.”
