With the recent election of our first black president, we also welcome our first black lady, Michelle Obama. Coming from the south side of Chicago, Michelle Obama could only dream of becoming the first lady. With motherhood, an Ivy-League background, and world renowned, Mrs. Michelle Obama is a powerhouse and a great representation of what a lady should be in this day and age.
Education: It is imperative that the ladies of America become serious about extending their education. Knowledge is power and a lady should not stand to be anything less than educated. It is becoming more competitive to attain a good career and make a good salary without the proper foundation.
Presentation: Ladies you should look at yourselves as if you are a five-star restaurant. If you visit a restaurant and the service is excellent, the floors are spotless, and you have a polite waitress, then you would more likely visit again because of the presentation. However, if you were to have the same meal at a restaurant with poor service, and not as good of a presentation, you may not return. If you, the interviewee, are in front an interviewer and your presentation is not up to par, it is more than likely you will not receive a phone call stating, “You got the job,” just like the disappointed customer at the restaurant will not return for another visit. You must first realize that if no one knows you and have nothing to go on but your outer appearance, it is your duty to give the public something positive to remember you by. First impressions are lasting impressions.
Value: The familiar quote “If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything” comes to mind. Having a deontological frame of mind and living your life based on duty or moral obligation, are essential to being a lady. It is extremely important to have morals and stick to them. One of the worst things in life is to catch and settle for whatever is thrown your way. Have standards and hold them high to prevent anyone from running over you. As a woman, there are some people who feel that you should just accept whatever they throw at you, but remember that people will only do to you what you allow.
So, ladies, if you dream big, educate yourself, present yourself as decent young women, set your standards high and treat others how you would want to be treated, then there is no limit to where you will end up later in life. Who knows–maybe one day you will be The First Lady.
