PV celebrates Constitution Day

erleaders and the student body, PVAMU’s world renowned “Marching Storm” paraded around the yard in celebration of Constitution Day at a ceremony, held by the fountain on Sept. 17.

Constitution Day is a day in which students and faculty members commemorate of the day that the Texas Constitution of 1876 was ratified.

Coordinated by the Office of Special Programs and Special Series, this event has been occurring at Prairie View annually since 2005.

Frank D. Jackson, mayor of Prairie View, made a notable appearance. Jackson started the event with a few words, which were followed by a few selections from the band.

Due to the career fair and the class cycle, the duration of the ceremony was exactly 15 minutes.

Not only does the Constitution protect the basic rights of citizens, but it assures the right to a free education provided by federal funding as well.

Isis McCraw, program coordinator II for the Office of Student Affairs, said, “Although a directive from the U.S. Department of Education mandates we recognize this day, I believe that it is a great opportunity to interact with students and provide information on an important subject.”

In order to further educate students, McCraw and staff issued hand books containing facts and other information regarding the Constitution for all those whom attended the ceremony.
