Recently, Prairie View A&M University students elected their senators for the Student Government Association. This writer would like to congratulate those individuals elected by their peers to represent them. But, let it be known, the real work starts now. Campaigning may have been difficult, but the real challenge is representing the students and making advances on their behalf and those still to come. The motto here at Prairie View is “Prairie View Produces Productive People.” This writer believes very much in this ideal, and thinks that students and their elected representatives should take this to heart. The momentum of progress here on campus is in an upswing, and we should not let it die down.
To the elected student, encouragement is offered. The road ahead is tough. There are long meetings, communicating with faculty and staff, and of course speaking to and representing the student body.
As our hands point to the hill during the alma mater, may you always point towards progress for the betterment of Prairie View students.
To the general student body, encouragement as well as a challenge is offered. Keep your head up. Things may look bad, the cafeteria may be packed, parking may be scarce, and the cost of college across the country is steadily rising, but your student government is dedicated to reducing and eliminating these problems. The challenge is to stay in constant contact with your representatives and voice your ideas. You cannot be properly represented if you do not speak up. Your representatives are working hard on your behalf, support them.
A wise man once said, “You don’t drown by falling in water. You drown by staying there.”
Far too long we have struggled along in a mess, let’s get out of it and move on to better things. Let us not sink into the mindset that “nothing works at PV.” Do not drown in the idea that things will not get better.
Productivity produces progress; and if we produce productive people, we are producing people who are going to change the world.
