Road trip ends soccer team’s winning streak

The Lady Panther soccer team was looking to add to its two-game winning streak with their two games against the Texas State Lady Bobcats on Sept. 25 and the University of Texas-San Antonio on Sept. 27. The Lady Panthers ended their weekend with two losses, dropping their record to 2-6 for the season. The Lady Panthers got off to a good first half against the Lady Bobcats, holding them scoreless with some great defensive soccer. The Lady Panther offense never got going though and the first half ended in an 0-0 tie.

In the second half, Prairie View’s defense couldn’t hold up. The Lady Bobcats got their first goal of the second half just minutes after the official’s whistle. Without getting any shots on goal, the Lady Panthers offense failed to keep up with the Lady Bobcats and their two-game winning streak was snapped in a 5-0 defeat. Goal keeper Jessica Garcia had eight saves in the game.

The Lady Panthers attempted to get back on the winning track against UTSA.

Unfortunately, the Lady Panthers got off to a slow start offensively, as did UTSA. The Lady Panthers’ defense held UTSA scoreless until late in the first half, when UTSA scored a goal with under three minutes left for 1-0 lead. With 12 saves in the game, Garcia and the Lady Panthers back line helped keep the game close. The Lady Panthers only had four shot attempts in the second half and didn’t convert either of them.

In the second 45 minutes of play, the Lady Panthers again couldn’t match their great first half defensive performance and gave up three goals in the second half to UTSA.

The Lady Panthers will now be looking to get conference play off on the right track on Oct. 2 against Alabama State and Oct. 3 against Alabama A&M.
