Sigma Tau Theta introduced the student body to members of their organization during their “Welcomm 2009,” Sept. 23 in Hilliard Hall. The “Welcomm” is a mixer that Sigma Tau Theta created to unite all mass communication majors.
Founded in 1999, they have established themselves as one of the leading fraternities in the advancement of the communications department at Prairie View A&M University.
At the beginning of the mixer Krystal Pitre, president of Sigma Tau Theta, introduced all the current members of the organization. She explained how mass communication is affects everyone on campus and how it is essential in everyday life.
Dr. Dejun Liu, a professor in mass communication said that the blood of social activity is communication. Currently there are approximately 400 people involved in communication and there are 300 communication majors on campus.
“Sigma Tau Theta is a very healthy organization and has done so much for the communication department”, said Dr. Liu in regarding to the opportunities the organization has helped with.
Afterwards the organization announced their seminar called “Bag Lady” that is open for men and women adjusting to the problems, pressures, and emotions of college life to be held October 6.
