What’s more important to you? A new cell phone or a warm bed at night?
I think we, as students, are being a lot more passive than we should be about the Haiti disaster that is happening around us. We’re adults, guys. We should want to help in any way we can.
I realize that we may not all have the resources needed to make a significant impact on the country and its people, but I do know that we can at least help out through prayer and positive thinking. Just speaking positively and consciously could make a huge difference.
Sometimes I think we get so caught up in being angry about what we want and may not be able to have that we forget about what is most important.
Imagine losing a family member at a sudden moment or not knowing whether your next meal will ever come. That’s not a happy feeling I’m sure and I believe that we need to make ourselves much more aware of the severity of the situation going on right now.
Most of us have friends and loved ones who were affected by hurricane’s Katrina, Ike, Rita and Gustav among others. Let us remember what they went through and how much they needed us.
Support these people. Support humanity. Please become much more sensitive to them and their misfortune.
Peers, I just hope that we are able to stop thinking about the simple desires and wants that we have for ourselves, and that we can be a selfless people.
Our university is trying to groom us for success and productivity. Let’s do our part with one another and become good people as well.
Once again I am inviting all members of the university and community to please talk to the staff and let us know what you think about the product we are publishing each week for you. We want letters to the editor as well as visits. All are welcome.
