Senior Cledell Brown was rushed to the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston by medical helicopter Monday after being stabbed outside the William “Billy” J. Nicks Building following a men’s basketball game, the university’s public relations office said.
During a brawl outside of the building, Brown suffered stab wounds in his arm, chest and shoulder, a close friend reported.
Sheleah Hughes, director of public relations, said Tuesday that Brown was in stable condition.
According to witnesses, Brown was involved in a fist-fight earlier that Monday.
“There’s too much behind the story to tell,” said a close friend of the victim.
Hughes said that a first-year student confirmed his involvement in the incident Tuesday.
Lieutenant David Webb of the Department of Public Safety said, “Someone is in custody and facts are still coming in.”
Hughes said, “As a university, our primary responsibility concerns the safety and well being of our students. We will continue to monitor the health of the hospitalized student.”
