Learning about safety

Young women gained some knowledge on how to protect themselves in dangerous situations at the Women’s Self Defense seminar held by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. on Feb. 1. J. D. Sippio was the speaker, and guest speakers Marian Elaine Jackson, a former teacher now supervisor and Erica Hughes, professor in the political science department.

For the first part of the seminar, Jackson and Hughes spoke to the audience encouraging them to go out and vote. Both PVAMU alumni sought after the students votes. Jackson is currently running for the position of JP and Hughes aims to have the position of court-at-law judge.

The later part of the seminar featured Sippio teaching all the women how to protect themselves at home or in the open and what to look for when going out.

The members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. presented Sippio with a certificate at the end of the seminar.
