Wouldn’t it be fun to compete against Big-12 foes of the likes of the University of Texas, Texas A&M, or maybe even Conference USA’s own University of Houston.
Athletic programs can and have changed conferences over the past few years. For example, the University of Connecticut last year as a Division I-AA was in 1999 when the Huskies only went 4-7. Getting their first win over a Division I-A, Buffalo 23-0. This year Uconn went 8-5 and are the 2010 Papajohns.com Bowl Champions. At the end of the day it’s about what your University brings to the table.
The process of moving out of the SWAC will take time and hard work, but if we as an HBCU want to move to the next level we have to make drastic moves. We need to stop using the tradition of being a HBCU institution as a crutch not to evolve as a University. I love the SWAC, but Prairie View A&M University can obtain much more. What do you think? Its time to start living our dreams and stop settling for plan B.
