This past weekend the Lady Panthers hosted their first home game of the season against the Houston Baptist Huskies.
The Lady Panthers would drop two games to the Huskies, but showed promise throughout.
At the top of the first, the Lady Panthers came out on top of their game, the first batter for the Huskies was able to get on due to an error was able to get the first out of the game.
Going into the second inning the team kept up their tenacious spirit and junior Artavia Woods got the first out with an incredible catch in center field, freshman Shannon Harris the third baseman fielded and completed a play for the second out.
The first score of the game was made in the second inning by HBU as a result of a couple of errors made by the Lady Panthers.
The Panthers regrouped and Harris was able to complete the third out of the top of the second inning.
Junior left fielder Kesha Hagerman opened up the inning with an awesome double to left center.
Back on defense Bridget Coronado continued to pitch a consistent game and the first batter for Houston Baptist was out in three strikes.
Coronado tried to get a rally going but was halted in her efforts as her hit was caught in center field.
The hit of the game came in the bottom of the sixth and was made by Woods.
Woods’ triple hit just fair in right field, due to complications among game officials the other Lady Panthers weren’t able to rally behind her great hit.
Despite the reluctance of the officials to acknowledge their efforts, the Lady Panthers still kept fighting and Woods completed the first out of the seventh inning.
The Huskies struck back with a home run, and after a few errors the Lady Panthers recovered and Coronado completed the last out of the game to empty the bases.
The Lady Panthers’ 3-0 loss did not adequately display the impeccable defense that they displayed throughout the entire game.
Prior to their 3-0 loss the lady Panthers played Houston Baptist in a first game in which they fell to the Huskies 18-0.
According to Nikki Lilly and Kinree Jeanisse, “The Lady Panthers came together better in the second game”.
Despite the bitter sweet loss the Lady Panthers will proceed on.
“We have a young team, a lot of new talent, as we continue season play I know the potential I see every day in practice will soon reflect on the field”, said sophomore Lakevia Wallace.
