“Leadership abilities, good communication skills, and a strong work ethic,” are what Michelle Muskeni, a representative for Siemens, looked for in potential interns at this semester’s Career Fair for technical majors on Feb. 18.
Hosted by the Office of Career and Outreach Services, the fair was geared specifically toward technical majors. There was a great turnout of engineering majors and computer science majors.
Many companies like PPG, L-3 Communications Mission Integration Division, Lockheed Martin, welcomed Prairie View students with pamphlets and booklets explaining what their companies’ do as well as what types of majors they were specifically in search of.
Kassia Munson and Marvin Washington represented L-3 Communications Mission Integration Division, a company that has supported the university’s career fair for the past five years.
Munson said, “We have hired several engineering students from Prairie View.” Washington added, “We are heavy on hiring mechanical engineering and computer science majors.”
The company stationed in Greenville, Texas, also sponsored the Roy G. Perry Student Success Center.
Graduate student Tope Makanjuola said, “The career fair is usually very helpful to me.”
Glenda Jones, director of Career and Outreach Services said,
“The turnout was great, I think the companies were impressed. Our goal is to increase the number of employers for non-technical majors.”
