Lady Panthers dominate

The Prairie View A&M University men and women’s golf team participated in the Golden Lion Classic invitational this past weekend in Pine Bluff, Ark.

The women’s golf team won the classic, bringing home the UAPB Invitational, while the men’s tennis team won second place.

The Lady Panthers came through and dominated, recording an overall top three individual scores to start off their first season.

Junior Lady Panther Peni Sanjoto led her team with tournament low rounds of 82 and 84.

Senior Aziza Glass chipped in back to back rounds of 85, while Danetta Dunn contributed in the solid second round score to finish third among her teammates.

Head Coach Alvin Blake was more than proud, he stated, “I thought they did an excellent job and they’re coming together as a group.”

I foresee good things playing out for this team if Peni and Aziza can keep leading with their play like they’ve done so far.”

Although the men’s golf team did not bring home a first place win, they did bring home second place.

Sophomore player Michael Bradham, who played his first ever meet at Prairie View A&M University held his team high when he shot a 71 in the first round followed by an 82 in the second round to finish third overall within his team.

Despite the weather consisting of rain, wind, and cold, sophomore Joseph Daly redeemed himself from the subpar opening round and ended the tournament strong with an overall 79 to finish his match.

Remaining team players Avery Campbell, Donald Cook, and Brady Faggard also contributed a substantial effort to their team winning second place.

The invitational included schools such as Alabama A&M University, Mississippi Valley University, Texas Southern University, Alabama State University, and the host University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. Overall the Prairie View A&M University Panthers have started their season with passion, let’s hope it stays that way.

Upcoming matches for the women will be held in another two weeks during a SWAC Roundup hosted by Texas Southern in Houston, TX. on Mar. 16.
