Students In Free Enterprise hosted a seminar titled, “Financial Literacy for College Students,” on March 2.
Irvin Hanks, an adjunct professor in the Department of Finance served as the keynote speaker during this event.
Throughout the seminar, Hanks discussed the importance of budgeting and managing while in college, in order to avoid being in debt afterward.
Hanks said, “Start now, spend more money on the things you need, rather than the things you want.”
Hanks also encouraged students to invest in stocks and mutual funds, and to also search for growth companies when considering making an investment. Pamphlets about financial literacy were issued during the seminar.
The program was coordinated by freshman electrical engineering and computer technology major Derrick Webster.
Webster said, “The overall purpose of this event was to remove any financial ignorances and provide methods to avoid future monetary problems.”
S.I.F.E. will be participating in the “Regional Expo,” in Dallas, Texas on March 30.
