Senior sprinter Jarryd Gray won the 200-meter dash as the Prairie View A&M men’s track team participated in the annual Michael Johnson Classic at the Hart-Patterson Track Complex over the weekend.
Gray, a senior from Fort Worth, was able to defeat his opponents even through intense weather throughout the meet. Gray time of 21.26 was undeniable at the presitges meet.
Gray also participated in the 100-meter dash and narrowly missed the finals as he finished with the 13th-best time in the preliminary round. Finishing one through 12 to be able to participate in the finals.
Brandon Hicks placed eighth in the 800 after clocking 1:52.24, while William Donelson put forth a solid afternoon of hurdle races with a third-place finish (52.7) in the 400-meter hurdles and fifth-place run of 14.77 in the 110-meter hurdles.
Leonard Chanette was the team’s top jumper as he placed fifth in the high jump with a height 1.9 (6-02.75) meters.
Jarry Gray said, “I feel good, I’m dropping my times every week and I have a good feeling about winning the 100 and 200-meter in SWAC.”
The Panthers will have this weekend off before returning to action in the SWAC Outdoor Championships in New Orleans, La. on April 30.
